In-DUH-vidual

OK, so maybe I didn't make myself clear in my first post. If you're disabled, the chances are you get lumped in with EVERY other disabled person on the planet, as if we were just one homogenous lump, with the same needs, same wants, same everything as the rest of "our kind". Oh, and we all look the same, as well. So, we do need to recognise that we ARE individuals, with our own thoughts, desires, ambitions and so on. It's not always easy, but it's essential. I'll give you an example; there's a lass who lives and works in the same town as I do and I'm always being mistaken for her. OK, we're both wheelchair users, we both have dark hair (but different colours) and we both wear glasses and we're both female, but I think other than that, the similarities end there. So why do people only see the wheelchair? How would non-disabled people like it if I only recognised their hair? Or their nose? It's just as silly. People out there, I'm more than just a set of wheels, so take notice! I'm sure others have the same experience; please let me know. Thanks.

Life is strange. In defense of the seemingly ignorant and given my useless memory, I don't need for you to be in a wheelchair to forget who you are.

Do what I do, try not to care too much about what other people think, after all, they're nearly always wrong :-)
